Pinoy Idol vs Pinoy Dream Academy

I would like to talk about this two singing contest here in the Philippines. American Idol is already finished and they have David Cook as their big winner. The show was a big success and every year, the show grows bigger with a millions of viewers all over the world. Will that be the fortune of the new Pinoy Idol? I have seen some episodes of Pinoy Idol, I hate to say it but it's kinda boring to watch. Not because of the contestants but as a whole. It looks dry and so serious. I don't want to make any comparisons from Pinoy and American Idol, but you can't avoid it from being compared. American already have 7 seasons while in the Philippines, I don't know if this is the first or second. Why? We all know that there was Philippine Idol aired at ABC 5. That was the first as far as I'm concerned. Now, GMA 7 got the rights to have the Idol and changed it to Pinoy Idol and the question "who will be the next Pinoy Idol" always being asked which means that Philippine Idol from ABC 5 didn't exist. Anyway, I was able to watch Pinoy Idol and just can't help myself from being bored. From the settings to the scripts, etc.. They are really trying to copy American Idol but the materials aren't that good. I really don't know if I should write this but Raymond, the host, should loosen up and not to be serious. Which leads me to Pinoy Dream Academy from the other network, ABS CBN 2.

Pinoy Dream Academy is the pinoy version of Endemol's Star Academy. I have some episodes and it didn't bore me. I know that it's a different format from Pinoy Idol. But I watch American Idol and it didn't bore either. I really think it has to do with the script, settings, judges and host. I don't know what's missing but it's dry. ABS CBN did the right move by getting Billy Crawford as their host. He can definitely make the show alive and colorful. He's great in not sticking to the script and do some adlibs and joke around. I think that's the missing ingredient of Raymond. Ryan Seacrest may have some script to do but still, he puts some adlibs that loosen up the show. Pinoy Idol doesn't have to copy American Idol, from settings to the scripts to the judges. Anyway, this is just (as they say) the first season of Pinoy Idol. There are still time for them to improve on the next season.
